William Edward Eckstein, 80, of Indianapolis, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2024. He was born on March 22, 1943 to the late Herman W. and Delene O. (Hyatt) Eckstein in Batesville, Indiana.

William was a graduate of New Marion High School in Ripley County, class of 1961 and retired from Yellow Freight Systems.

Survivors include his children, Kevin Eckstein and Kim Morrow (Aaron); former daughter-in-law, Allison Eckstein; and grandchildren, Jack, Elise and Griffin Eckstein and A.J. and Mia Morrow. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife of 51 years, Sharon Rose (Meisberger) Eckstein.

Bill attended St. Roch Catholic Church, was a member of Atkins Saw Post #355 of the American Legion, and the Knights of Columbus.

Bill was an enthusiastic fan of Indiana University, car racing, and golf during his younger years. He was a skilled athlete who played a crucial role in the 1961 New Marion Panthers basketball team hitting the shot that secured the sectional championship. Bill rarely missed any of his grandkids sporting events and school activities. Bill also had many close friendships with buddies from Columbus, the Legion, and the Southside Corner Bar. He was a caretaker of his family, a friend to all whom he met, and impacted many during his lifetime. Bill was a devoted son, father, and grandfather.
