Florence M. (Barney) Miller

Florence M. Miller, 72, of Indianapolis, passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2018 fighting pancreatic cancer.  She was born on November 16, 1945 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island to the late Samuel A. and Catherine F. (Leddy) Barney. 

Florence was born and raised in Rhode Island, remaining a lifelong member of the Rhode Island State Grange.  She attended East Providence High School and in 1966 graduated from the Rhode Island School of Nursing.  That same year she met a Navy man at a USO dance and began a 52 year love story. He brought her back to Indiana where she pursued her passion in nursing which had many highlights, friendships, and opportunities to mentor others.  In 2013, Florence received the Lifetime Achievement in Nursing Award from Community Health Network.  Saint Roch Catholic Church and School was her spiritual home providing her with countless friendships and a place to sing and grow in faith.  Her heart was of service, dignity, and compassion. 

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Richard C. Miller; sons, Seth A. (Louise) Miller and David F. (Charlene) Miller; sister, Carole (Howard) Paster; grandchildren, Sarah and Nathan Miller, and her childhood best friend Dianne Kenworthy.  An avid dog lover, we include her Basset Hound “Flash”, the grand dogs Walter, Alfred, Grace, and Molly.  (And the Boston Red Sox) 

Family and friends will gather on Monday, September 24, 2018 from 4 to 8 p.m. in Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services, 1458 S. Meridian St.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at 10 a.m. in St. Roch Catholic Church, 3600 S. Pennsylvania St., with prayers being said at the funeral home prior to mass at 9:30 a.m.  

Directly following mass a luncheon will be provided in the St. Roch Parish Life Center; the burial will take place at 1:30 p.m. in Resthaven Cemetery, Edinburgh, Indiana.
