Fred H. Snyder, age 70, of Indianapolis, passed away suddenly on Saturday, June 15, 2019. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Mary Rose (Butler) Snyder. He was born on October 3, 1948 to the late Roger L. and Dorothy L. (Schultz) Snyder of Indianapolis.
Fred graduated from Harry E. Wood High School, class of 1968. He worked for Koch News Company in Indianapolis for 30 years. In retirement, Fred served as a caregiver for special needs children including for his own grandson, Carter. Fred was a member of the Beech Grove Eagles #4167 and was the founder and only member of the Tye-Dye Society. Fred belonged to a monthly card club, playing euchre with friends for over 30 years. He also enjoyed camping with family, softball, and bowling. Fred’s favorite holiday was Halloween and he was well known for having over-the-top decorations and for thoroughly enjoying the screams of all the terrified trick-or-treaters.
Survivors include three daughters, Sarah Jane Fedor (Stefan) and Stephanie Snyder Slone (Kyle, former son-in-law), from his first marriage to Janet Smith George (Jim), and Kelli Higgins (Chris) with Mary Rose. Fred had 7 grandchildren: Mackenzie, Luke, and Carter Slone; Alessandro and Carly Fedor; and Michaela and Melanie Jane Higgins. He leaves behind his sister, Alleen Fields, and his two beloved dogs, Gizmo and Chip.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents who were active members in the Indianapolis deaf community; and siblings, Ruth Whiteside and William D. Snyder.
Family and friends will gather on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 from 4 to 9 p.m. at Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services, 1458 S. Meridian St. A service celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with additional visitation from 10 a.m. until service time.
Cremation will take place following services as per his wishes.
