John Crandall Butler, age 72, of Indianapolis, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2019 in the Franciscan Hospice House. He was born on August 23, 1946 in Ft. Lewis, Washington to the late Dr. John O. and Dr. Martha L. (Crandall) Butler.
John was a graduate of Southport High School, class of 1964; his senior year he was part of the All State Football Team. He attended DePauw University where he also played football. He loved music, his pets and was beloved by his friends and former classmates; they truly were his extended family.
Survivors include his long-time partner of 20 years, Karen Schnyder; daughter, Stephanie Butler Emrick; siblings, Dr. Jerry Butler (Kelly), Joe Butler (Cindy), Jim Butler, Jenny Walker (Tim) and Jeff Butler (Mary); three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Julie M. Butler.
Family and friends will gather on Friday, April 12, 2019 from 4 to 6 p.m. in Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services, 1458 S. Meridian St., with a memorial service at 6 p.m. Burial will follow on a later date in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Greenwood (Glenns Valley).
