Parke Eric Austin, 71, of Indianapolis, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2019. He was born on December 28, 1947 in Indianapolis to the late Robert Austin and Jo Ellen (Russell) Austin.
Parke was a 1966 graduate of Southport High School and a tool & die maker by trade. He retired from Allison Transmission after 42 years of service and also retired from the Marion County Sheriff’s Department after ten years of service. He was a very caring, generous and helpful person with a great sense of humor. He was someone that was truly hard to forget and always willing to go the extra mile to help someone in need, most especially children and young people needing a temporary home.
Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Jane (Sharum) Austin; sons, Eric Austin, Bradley Austin and Joseph Austin; daughters, Kristi Peed and Angel Austin; siblings, Barbara Harrington, Carla Schnurpel (Kenny) and Brian Austin (Cher); grandchildren, Amanda Depew, Timothy Depew, Emily Peed, Kristen Peed, Jozie Austin, Daniella Roberts and Jaxon Pardo; and great-grandchildren, Jada Ellis and Mandi Bonham. He is also survived by three nieces; Lynn, Gail and Carah; as well as two great great nephews and one great grand niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Johnathan Austin; and daughter, Elizabeth Smith.
Family and friends will gather on Saturday, June 8, 2019 from 11 to 12 noon in Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services, 1458 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis. A memorial service will follow visitation at 12 noon with Pastor Ellery Hunsley. Cremation took place prior to services as per Parke’s wishes.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association in Parke’s memory.
