In Loving Memory of Amos William Behanna
December 18, 1966 – August 20, 2025
Amos William Behanna, age 58, of Indianapolis, passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, after a brave battle against leukemia (AML). He was born on December 18, 1966, in Washington, Pennsylvania, to the late Joseph Edward Behanna, Sr. and Linda Lee (Miller) Boling.
A proud graduate of Trinity High School (Class of 1985), Amos had a presence that could not be ignored — and usually wasn't. He married the love of his life, Paige Elaine (Phillips) Behanna, on November 19, 2000, in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, and they shared just shy of 25 years of partnership built on love, laughter, and a shared appreciation for the simple joys in life.
Amos was a passionate outdoorsman — an avid fisherman, hunter, and proud member of both the Hoosier Carpers and the Carp Anglers Group. Whether knee-deep in nature or wrist-deep in the garden soil, he found peace outdoors and joy in the results of his work. His landscape gardens were not only admired, but they were also known to spark debate — usually with Amos leading the charge.
Though he had strong opinions and wasn’t shy about sharing them, those who knew him well also knew the size of his heart. He was a “teddy bear” at his core, especially when it came to his beloved Mocha Pearl, his loyal four-legged companion. A gifted cook, Amos believed good food should be flavorful, filling, and made with pride. His meals were often the centerpiece of gatherings, and his absence will be felt at every table.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Paige; siblings, Joseph (Lisa) Behanna, Jr., Jody Behanna, and Marcia Smith; brother-in-law, Eric Elliott; father- and mother-in-law, Leonard and Virginia Phillips; brother-in-laws, Christopher (Kelly) Phillips and Cole (Erica) Phillips; best friend, Jathan Imhausen; and many nieces, nephews, and friends who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents and Andrew Behanna and Patti Jo Elliott, siblings whom he deeply loved and missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, from 12 noon to 3 p.m. at St. Roch Parish Life Center, 3603 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis, IN 46217. Snacks and refreshments will be served.
In Lieu of Flowers, the family of Amos Behanna kindly asks that you honor his memory by supporting the sport he loved so dearly--carp fishing. Amos found great joy not only in the quiet water but in sharing his knowledge and passion with others. To continue his legacy, donations can be made to the AWB Memorial fundraiser, (venmo link/@PBehanna) helping to introduce others to the sport Amos so dearly loved and cherished.
With heartfelt thanks, His loving wife and family.
