Anthony Michael Benedict, born December 19, 1939, passed away Wednesday, January 5th at the age of 82 after a brief illness.
A lifelong resident of Indianapolis, Anthony was a beloved father, brother, grandfather, uncle and a practicing criminal defense attorney until 2020. He was a graduate of St. Catherine’s, Cathedral High School, Marian College and Indiana University School of Law. He was a stand-out baseball player through college and was known to say on many occasions, “You know what happens when you can’t play ball Buddy? You switch to golf.” He was a great player of the game. He will be remembered fondly for his love of sports, statistics and many cherished hours of roll-ball, ball-in-the-cup and pool throw-ball. Anthony was also a great chef who enjoyed sharing his culinary love with his family on countless occasions and family celebrations.
The son of Louis and Mary Benedict, Anthony is survived by his children Andrea Benedict Starkey and Joseph Benedict, grandchildren Alex and Anna Starkey and Michael and Isabelle Benedict, sisters Mary Lou Belch, Providence Benedict, Rosemarie Rightor, Joann Flynn, Barbara Sylvester, Angela Minkner and Margaret Alexander, and many beloved nieces, nephews and their children.
A visitation will be held at Lauck & Veldhof Funeral Home on Monday, January 10th from 4-8 p.m. and a Catholic Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church on Tuesday, January 11th, followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery.
