Obituary

Antonia Marie (Mollaun) Townsend, 70, of Indianapolis, passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2023. She was born on August 31, 1952, in Batesville, Indiana, to the late Alphonse “Butch” and Helen “Jean” (Tekulve) Mollaun.

Antonia grew up in Batesville, Indiana, where she enjoyed swimming, horseback riding, and babysitting while attending St. Louis catholic school. “Toni”, as her friends and family called her, was the second oldest of four siblings and the only girl. She remained in Batesville until graduating from high school at the Oldenburg Academy of the Immaculate Conception. Toni then attended Ball State University studying art and design. She eventually transferred her education to St. Mary of the Woods College where she would earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design. Toni could completely transform any room from something simple to extraordinary using vibrant colors and patterns. Her passion for design would remain throughout her life.

Antonia was very close to both of her parents, caring for them in their golden years. She was a loving mother who was very involved in her children’s education. She attended countless class trips and volunteered whenever possible. Antonia loved to garden and was talented with both indoor and outdoor plants. She was an incredible artist who enjoyed drawing and painting. She loved animals and even adopted a bunny for her granddaughter named “Hopper”.

Above all else, there was one title that meant the most to Antonia. In 2010 she became “Nana” to her one and only grandchild “Lily”. Nana and Lily had a very unique bond. Nana would always refer to Lily as her “saving grace”, bringing imminent joy and laughter into her life until her very last day.

Survivors include her children, Meghan C. Townsend and Mitchell C. Townsend; granddaughter Lillian Owens; former husband and friend, Ron Townsend; brothers, Terry (Donna) Mollaun and Toby (Mary Kay) Mollaun; sister-in-law, Charlotte Mollaun; best friend, Jodi Checkeye; nieces and nephews, Corey Mollaun, Bryan Mollaun, Brandon Mollaun, Emma Mollaun, Holly Goedde Tod Mollaun; Ryan Ahlbrand and Lauren Ahlbrand. In addition to her parents, Toni was preceded in death by her brother, Trent Mollaun.
