Arlene Sue (Mills) Hostetter

Arlene Sue Hostetter, 78, of Greenwood, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at Community South Hospital after an extended illness. She was born on February 4, 1948, in Flat Lick, Kentucky, to the late William and Effie Mills.

Arlene lived a life defined by love, generosity, and an unshakable devotion to her family. She retired from Conagra Foods, but her true life’s work was caring for the people she loved. Her family meant everything to her, and she showed it in countless ways—especially through feeding anyone who walked through her door. No one ever left her home hungry, and no one ever left without feeling cared for.

She loved gathering with her family to play poker, a game she approached with fierce competitiveness and a playful spirit. Arlene always played to win and never gave anyone a break at the table, yet she was also the first to give you every dollar she had if you truly needed it. Her blend of toughness, humor, and boundless generosity made her unforgettable.

Arlene was the youngest of 15 siblings, and the last to join them in rest. Growing up in such a large family shaped her into the loving, sweet, and endlessly kind woman she became. She never met a stranger, and her warmth made everyone feel like family.

She is survived by her loving children, Karen (Carl) Coe and Jeff (Luis Calles) Hostetter; grandchildren, Ashley (Josh) McElyea, Nick (Sadie) Kendall, Christy (Kristopher) Kittlaus, and Anthony Coe; great‑grandchildren, Makailah (Isaish Wilson) Edwards, Aliviah Anderson, Mason Kittlaus, Liam Kittlaus, Isabella Kittlaus, Carson Kendall, Corbin Kendall, Ian McElyea, Zoey McElyea, and Carson Boggs; great‑great‑grandson, Waylon Wilson; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and all 15 of her older siblings.

Family and friends will gather on Friday, June 26, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services, 1458 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis. A service celebrating her life will follow at 7 p.m., with Pastor Loral Tansy officiating.
