Barbara Callahan Obituary

Barbara Ann (Bittelmeyer) Callahan, 81, of Indianapolis, passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2023. She was born on July 6, 1942, in Indianapolis, to the late Nairn Joseph and Mary Kathleen (Odum) Bittelmeyer.

Barbara was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, class of 1961, and was an office administrator in the road construction industry for many years prior to retirement. She was devoted to her family and had a passion for genealogy. Many of the family trips while raising her children included researching some elements of family history.

Barbara grew up in the Garfield Park neighborhood and her family belonged to St. Catherine parish. She later was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church where she was a Eucharistic minister. Barbara was a wonderful woman with many talents, but she will be remembered most as a loving and caring mother and grandmother, always putting her family first.

Survivors include her loving daughters, Roxanna Harris and Tammy York; siblings, Mary Bittelmeyer, Joseph Bittelmeyer, Robert (Paula) Bittelmeyer and Jane Helm; grandchildren, Corey (Barbara) Harris, Courtney (Prescott) Broscoe, Sarah (Don) Frandsen, Megan York and Valerie York; great-grandchildren, Athena and Leo with another on the way; and cousin David (Linda) Odum.

Family and friends will gather on Friday, December 15, 2023, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services, 1458 S. Meridian St., with prayers being said at 10:30 a.m. before leaving for the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 2905 Carson Ave, with Fr. Robert Robeson presiding. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
