Bernice Osiris Armendariz Cole, 91, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 17, 2026, at Morristown Manor. She was born on January 8, 1935, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to the late Guadalupe and Hermelinda (Pacillas) Armendariz.
Bernice worked as an interpreter in the healthcare system until her retirement, a role that allowed her to help others with compassion and understanding. She was a longtime member of Irvington Presbyterian Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. Music was a constant joy in her life, she especially loved karaoke and sharing songs with friends and family. Bernice was also a proud member of the Eagles Club and the Moose Lodge. She was active in local politics for many years and was well known in Marion County for her dedicated service as a poll worker, a responsibility she embraced with pride and commitment.
Above all, Bernice will be remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother. Her family was the center of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Kathryn “Dee Dee” (Thomas) Deon, Carol (Charlene) Tincher, Michael (Tracy) Cole, and Kacie (James Michael) Grimmitt; her siblings, Benjamin (Helen) Armendariz, and Joshua (Marianne) Armendariz; and her grandchildren, Lynette Massingale, Christina Tincher, Robert Finley, Joseph Deon, Jordon Cole, Julian Deon, Jacob Deon, Erin Grimmitt, Jamie Todd, Evie Grimmitt, and Devon Cole. She is also survived by many great grandchildren who brought her tremendous joy.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Ronald Cole; and her siblings, Efram Armendariz, Helen Zapata, Dina Rader, Linda Hernandez, and Reuben Armendariz.
Family and friends will gather on Sunday, April 26 from 2 to 4 p.m. in Lauck & Veldhof Funeral Home, 1458 S. Meridian St., with a memorial service following at 4 p.m.
