Betty Jean (Kenipe) Barnes, 92, of Indianapolis, passed away Monday, October 11, 2021. Betty was born Thursday, February 7, 1929 in Indianapolis, the daughter of the late Jennings and Goldie Gladys (Ottinger) Kenipe.
She was a receptionist for 31 years, retiring on Friday, December 10, 2010 from Grocers Supply Company. Betty loved listening to country music, watching Dancing With The Stars, American Idol and the many Hallmark movies. She would work word puzzle books, play Solitaire on her phone and still find the time to go shopping. Family was her life, she enjoyed doing things with her family and friends and the time she spent with them. For years, she took pleasure in the regularly planned trips to Daytona Beach, Florida.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Kathy S. Barnes of Indianapolis; her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Jeannine Kenipe of Plainfield; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ellen and Clarence Merriman of Whiteland and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death of husband, Raymond E. Barnes.
Family and friends may call Wednesday, October 20, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services, 1458 South Meridian Street, where Pastor Bill Johnston will conduct funeral services at 1:00 p.m. A graveside committal service will be conducted Friday, October 22, 2021 at 2:30 p.m. in the Zionsville Cemetery, Zionsville, Indiana.
The family has requested memorial contributions be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (www.ASPCA.com) or to any local organization that provides services to animals or your local humane society.
