Bruce David Banta, 83, of Indianapolis, passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2021, in Community Heart and Vascular Hospital. He was born on April 18, 1937, in Indianapolis to the late David and Constance (Lanning) Banta. He married the love of his life on November 8, 1963, Joanne Lippert Banta; she survives.
Bruce graduated from Straughn High School in 1955 and served honorably in the United States Army in the Military Police. He was an officer for the Indianapolis Police Department for 22 years, owned Banta Builders and worked for Robert’s Glass. Bruce was a member of the American Legion Post 355 and the F.O.P. Lodge 86. He enjoyed taking his Corvette to car shows but above all he loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Joanne Lippert Banta; daughters, Rochelle Banta Tedder (Rob Tedder) and Jill Banta Smith (Kenneth Smith); grandchildren, Brandon Banta (Alyssa), Austin Smith (Kylee), Cameron Smith, Brett Richardson, Nolan Smith, Katelyn Tedder and Emily Tedder; and great-granddaughter, Brecklyn Banta.
Family and friends will gather on Thursday, March 11, 2021, from 10 to 12 noon in Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services, 1458 S. Meridian St., where prayers will be said at 12:15 before going in procession to Mass. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. in St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 8300 Rahke Rd.
