Byron Howard Williams, Jr., 85, of Indianapolis, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at Community East Hospital. He was born on September 15, 1939, in Richmond, Indiana, to the late Howard and Evelyn Mae (Morrison) Williams.
At age 18, he was baptized at Earlham Heights Presbyterian Church. He was a graduate of Richmond Senior High School, class of 1959. Byron worked at the Hoosier Market with his parents form 1955 until joining the United States Army in 1961. He returned to the market after returning home from the service in 1964 and worked at the market until the explosion in 1968. Byron moved to Indianapolis, with Conrail Railroad in 1971 and upon leaving the railroad, Byron worked in the funeral industry for 25 years, as well as in healthcare for a few years.
Byron first became a Charter Member of MCC Indy in 1973 and later attended Fleming Garden Christian Church with his Great Uncle, and his wife, after MCC Indy closed in 1979. He returned to LifeJourney Church, (formerly Jesus MCC) in 1990. With a promise to God, Byron served in leadership more than 20 years and continued to work in other capacities for several years.
Survivors include nephews, Rodney (Linda) Gabbard of Felicity, Ohio and Brian Scott (Sheryl) Gabbard of Greeneville, Tennessee; two great nieces, Alexa and Sienna Gabbard; cousins, Edith Mae Morrison Boone, Barbara Ellen Buntin Etchison and Carol Lee Buntin Vance all of Anderson, Patricia Ellen Morrison Richards of Oakmount, California and Susi Thompson Bartlett of Lebanon; step-son, Andy Pritchett of Danville; and dear friend, Louann Lowring. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Jacqueline Louvena Williams Gabbard in 2016.
Family and friends will gather on Sunday, January 19, 2024, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in LifeJourney Church, 2950 E. 55th Place, Indianapolis, IN 46220. A service celebrating his life will follow at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Jeff Miner presiding. Burial will take place on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, in Marion National Cemetery
