Carolyn Marie Carr

Carolyn Marie Carr, 70, died peacefully at home in Indianapolis on June 13, 2026, from an extended illness. Carolyn was born on January 9, 1956, in Elwood, Indiana to Rubin and Pauline Carr. She was the seventh of ten children.

Carolyn graduated from Anderson High School in 1974, where she served as the Head Majorette. She was married to Barry Noffze from 1976-1988 and they were the co-owners of Noffze Funeral Home in Summitville, Indiana. Carolyn worked for the United States Postal Service for six years before pursuing her lifelong dream of attending college, where she studied Sociology at Indiana University in Indianapolis. Carolyn retired from Barnes & Noble Booksellers after 20 years; a place she cherished for the friendships she made and the easy access to all the romance books she desired.

Her daughter Jennifer was born in 1976. Carolyn was a loving and devoted mother and supported Jennifer in all her endeavors. Carolyn shared her love of reading, Christmas and holiday decorating, and a penchant for adopting stray cats with her daughter. Carolyn was always a good sport and willing to accompany Jennifer not only on her museum work trips but to lots of other quirky places, too. Jennifer is heartbroken by the death of Carolyn but feels so very lucky that God blessed her with such a kind and gentle soul for a mother.

Carolyn leaves behind her daughter, Jennifer Noffze; beloved cat, Polly; sisters Lana Reach, Dorothy Carr, and Marilyn Sheppard; brothers Terry Lyons and Rick Carr; and several dozen nieces and nephews. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Rubin & Pauline Carr; sisters Frances Childers and Joyce Covey; and brothers James Allen Carr and Jarvis Carr.

A private family burial will occur at Park View Cemetery, in Alexandria. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society for Hamilton County. Jennifer would like to thank the Community Hospice team for the excellent care they provided for her mother and very special thanks to Carolyn’s great-niece, Jeni Keller, for all the love and support in Carolyn’s final months.
