Charles Ross Owens
Charles was born on May 22, 1952, in Gainesville, Florida, where his parents, George Max and Frances Ross Owens, were earning their master’s degrees in education and agriculture. During his school years in Florida, Charles loved sports, playing basketball and football among others. He also loved music and went on to play an electric guitar in a local rock band in his late teens. An excellent student, Charles’s education included both a bachelor’s (in chemistry) and a master’s (in education technology) from Florida State. Upon graduation, he served in the Air Force Reserve for three years where his primary duty was as a pilot. His work in retail management sent him to numerous locations in Texas, where he successfully used his computer skills to help many people bring high tech into their homes. While living in Lexington, Kentucky, he supervised a section of a Siemens distribution center. It was there that he met his longtime love and companion, Cynthia Scott Reeser. The couple moved to Columbia, Missouri, where she taught at the University of Missouri until her retirement. Hunting and fly fishing were Charles’ two favorite outdoor hobbies. He was also a voracious reader. Charles experienced one marriage in his early adulthood, which ended without the production of offspring. He was described as introverted but kind, intelligent, and highly observant. Predeceased by his parents and younger brother, Max, Charles is survived by Cynthia and his beloved dog, Jasmine.
