Christopher Dant Obituary

Christopher Douglas Dant, 57, of Indianapolis, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 30, 2021.  He was born on September 25, 1964, in Beech Grove, the youngest of thirteen children to the late Joseph Tilford and Kathleen Perley (Schoettle) Dant.  He married the love of his life, Kimberly Sue (Hancock) Dant, on November 4, 1995, and together they had two beautiful children, Abraham and Adia; they survive.

Chris graduated from Roncalli High School in 1982 and was the owner and founder of the Dant Insurance Agency which he established in 1982.  He got his start at Lazarus Department Store in his teens when an uncle realized Chris had a tremendous ability to work with people and provide good service, so he recruited him for the insurance business; he was an instant success.

Chris had an ability to make people feel special, always had a smile on his face and was always whistling a tune or singing a song. He had a beautiful voice, was very artistic, and his handwriting was exceptional.  Through the years he sang at many weddings and funerals and he was known for singing "Ave Maria" by heart.  Chris was always in his element surrounded by and serving people.  He was known for his generosity, kindness and willingness to help a friend, even to a fault.

Chris was active in St. Jude Catholic Church and, more recently, St. Mark Catholic Church.  He was a Eucharistic Minister and taught CCD for 25 plus years at St. Jude.   Chris was a past president of his Kiwanis Club and was the campaign chair for Joe Schaefer’s run to be the judge of the Perry Township Small Claims Court which he narrowly lost.  He never met a baby or animal he didn’t love. He loved his beloved dogs, Maybel, Vivi and Bolger.

Above all, Chris was a man of great faith, dedicated to his family and friends and was known for saying, “GIGTAE,” which when asked meant, God is Good Today and Everyday!  He will truly be missed!

Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Kimberly S. Hancock Dant; children, Abraham Douglas Dant (fiancé, Grace) and Adia M.K. Dant; siblings, Rev. J. Nicholas Dant, Kathleen M. Dant Henderson, Gerard P. Dant (Colleen), Gerald B. Dant (Tracy); Elizabeth M. Derwin (Robert), Timothy M. Dant (Karole Davis), Gregory C. Dant, Sr. (Elizabeth), George B. Dant, Harold F. Dant (Michelle); mother-in-law, Cheryl L. Young (Joseph B. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Frederick A. Dant, Thomas J. Dant and Mary Melinda Dant; brother-in-law, John Henderson; and sister-in-law, Pam Dant.
