Darlene Aguirre Obituary

In Loving Memory of Darlene J. Aguirre

August 6, 1938 – November 11, 2025

Darlene J. Aguirre, 87, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, November 11, 2025. Born in Champaign, Illinois, to Jean and Wilma (Kirkpatrick) Jeanes, Darlene lived a life marked by compassion, dedication, and quiet strength.

A proud graduate of Southern Illinois University, Darlene earned her associate’s degree in business administration and went on to serve the Indianapolis community through her work at Eli Lilly for 13 years and later at Broadway United Methodist Church, where she retired after 26 years of faithful service. Her commitment to helping others extended beyond borders—during her time with Project Hope in Ecuador, she met her future husband, Eduardo I. Aguirre, and together they built a life filled with love and family as they raised their sons, Michael and John.

Darlene was a caring mother and grandmother, who found joy in supporting her granddaughters in all their endeavors. She was a loyal friend, a treasured colleague, and a vibrant spirit who found delight in traveling, line dancing, and curling up with a good book. Her warmth and wisdom were felt by those around her, especially through her decades-long membership at Broadway United Methodist Church and her continued service with Lauck & Veldhof Funeral Home during retirement.

She is survived by her son, E. Michael (Terra) Aguirre; granddaughters, Courtney (Tom) Cullen and Sydney Aguirre; and her beloved cat, Sammy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eduardo Aguirre; her son, John D. Aguirre; and her companion of eight years, Rev. Frank Sablon.

A celebration of Darlene’s life will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Broadway United Methodist Church, 609 E. 29th St., Indianapolis, with Rev. Aaron Hobbs and Dr. Rachel Metheny officiating. Visitation will take place from 12 to 2 p.m. prior to the service. A reception at the church will follow services. Burial will be private at Mount Olive Cemetery in Mayview, Illinois.

Memorial contributions may be made to Broadway United Methodist Church or Parents of Addicted Loved Ones. Envelopes will be available at the church.
