David Davis Obituary

David Edward Davis, 83, of Indianapolis, passed away on Friday, January 7, 2022.  He was born on January 22, 1938 in Indianapolis to the late Dwight and Helen (Dalton) Davis.  Dave married the love of his life, Diana Rose (Weiler) Davis, on January 5, 1974. 

Dave grew up on Terrace Avenue in Indianapolis and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he was an altar server. He went on to graduate from Sacred Heart High School, class of 1956, where he played football, baseball, and basketball. Dave then attended Marian College and earned his Bachelors degree in Chemistry in 1966 where he played baseball. During his college years, Dave served as a Sergeant in the United States Army where he was deployed to Seoul, South Korea where he served as a Chemical Biological Radiological Specialist.  He lived his entire life on the south side of Indianapolis.  While Dave and Diana were raising their family, they attended Nativity Catholic Church where he served in the Knights of Columbus.  After the children were out of school, Dave and Diana returned to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Dave had a diverse career as a chemist, general contractor, and engineer. He started his career as a salesman for Beckman Industries.  He was then a chemist in the laboratory at Community Hospital in 1972. After 10 years with the hospital, Dave worked as a general contractor until 1997. Dave then went back into chemistry as a consulting chemist at UMM. He retired from UMM in 2000.  He came out of retirement to work with Cook Biotech until he retired again in 2014 to spend more time with his family and traveling.

Dave loved to travel with his wife, family, and friends. He was a world traveler who enjoyed cruising, sailing, skiing, and fishing. He and his wife took countless vacations together to destinations throughout the United States and Europe. In their travels, they have seen all 50 states, 30 countries, and 10 ships.

Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Diana Rose Davis; children, Jennifer (Richard) Randol and Dale (Elaine) Davis; sister, Mary Ellen Smith of Maryland; and grandchildren, Taylor and Luke Randol and Claire, Ava and Benjamin Davis.  Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Dwight and Helen (Dalton) Davis and his brothers John and William Davis.

Family and friends will gather on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 from 4 to 7 p.m. in Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services, 1458 S. Meridian St.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 13 at 11 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church with prayers being said at the funeral home prior to Mass at 10:30 a.m. Inurnment will take place on a later date in St. Joseph/Holy Cross Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations have been suggested to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
