David "Wayne" Spears

David Wayne Spears, 70, of Indianapolis, passed away at home on Monday, August 28, 2023.  He was born on January 9, 1953, in Columbia, Tennessee, to Edward and Evelyn (Holmes) Spears.  Wayne married the love of his life, Jo Ann (McCutcheon) Spears, on February 11, 1984; she survives.

Wayne worked for Archie’s Junk Yard and later for American Tent, both for over twenty years each until he had to go on disability.  He played the guitar and loved old records and music.  He was a talented mechanic and enjoyed working on cars and motorcycles; he loved riding his Harley when he was still able.  Wayne was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend; he loved kids and old cars.  He had a great sense of humor, was outgoing, could be goofy at times and loved to embarrass his wife Jo Ann.  He will be missed by family and friends. 

Survivors include his loving wife, Jo Ann Spears; mother, Evelyn Spears; children, Carrie Tibbs, Jamie (Julia Check) Spears, Shawn Spears, Chris (Kim) Spears, David (Stacey) Spears, Bobby Legan and Joe Brown; siblings, Donald (Betty) Spears, Debbie Spears, Brenda Scott and Tina (Jeff) Pettijohn; nineteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; caregiver and niece, Anna Cochran; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and life-long friends.  He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Spears and brother, Bobby Spears.  

Family and friends will gather on Thursday, August 31st  from 4 to 8 p.m. in Lauck & Veldhof Funeral Home, 1458 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis.  A service celebrating his life will take place on Friday, September 1st at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with additional visitation prior to service starting at 10 a.m.  Burial will follow in Concordia Cemetery.
