Deborah "Debbe" Ruth Pemberton

Deborah Ruth Pemberton, 71, of Greenwood, passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at home after an extended illness.  She was born on January 22, 1952, in Indianapolis, to the late William Jesse and Laverne Ruth (Skaggs) Pemberton. 

Debbe was a graduate of Harry E. Wood High School and grew up in the Sacred Heart Neighborhood on the Old Southside.  She studied cosmetology in her early years with her sister, Reeda, who preceded her in death.  She was one of the first in the Indianapolis area to master the art of sculptured nails.  Debbe and Reeda ran a successful beauty-based business for many years.  She had a great sense of humor, could be extremely funny and was a kid at heart.  Debbe will be most remembered as a loving wife and mother; she will be truly missed. 

Survivors include her loving husband of 27 years, Ronald Douglas Wright; son, Eric (Jenni) Grimmitt; daughter, Zoe (Dawson) Day; stepchildren, Courtney (Randy Bailey) Wright and Cameron (Cheyenne) Wright; brothers, Mark (Christine Baldwin) Pemberton and Jay Pemberton; sister, Sandra Kay Pemberton; grandchildren, Emersyn, Everly, Shaylynn, Maleah, Gannon and Tyson; niece, Brandy (Stephen) Pemberton O’Haver and their children, Zander and Danyella O’Haver.      

Family and friends will gather on Saturday, November 4 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services, 1458 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis.  A service celebrating her life will follow at 3 p.m.

Memorial contributions have been suggested to the American Stroke Association.  Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
