Dennis Ray Byrne, 71, of Indianapolis, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 26, 2026. He was born on August 12, 1954, in Indianapolis, to the late Joseph E. and Mary E. (Garrity) Byrne.
Dennis married the love of his life, Joyce Dean (Taylor) Byrne, on November 30, 1971, in downtown Indianapolis. He began his working career with Cooley Electric Manufacturing and later dedicated 15 years to Perfection Paint before the company relocated to Michigan. He concluded his career with Zink Distributing, where he worked for 14 years prior to retiring.
Dennis was a devoted NASCAR fan, especially of Dale Earnhardt Jr., and rarely missed a race. He also faithfully followed the Indianapolis Colts. He enjoyed watching Westerns with his sister Patty, particularly The Virginian and Gunsmoke. A collector of Coca-Cola memorabilia, Dennis was perhaps best known for his love of yard sales, where his gift for wheeling and dealing and his outgoing nature turned strangers into friends.
A true “jack of all trades,” Dennis had a passion for anything automotive and could fix just about anything. He was well known throughout his neighborhood for his willingness to lend a hand—often having just the right tool or advice when someone needed help.
Above all, Dennis cherished his family. He deeply loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and would do anything for them.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Joyce Byrne; his son, Steven Byrne; siblings, Patricia Albertson, Michael Byrne, David Byrne, and Stephanie Kay Prine; grandchildren, Jeremy Fox, Steven Byrne Jr., Chasity Byrne, Denise Byrne, and Dakota Byrne; and ten great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Barbara Lucas, Joseph Byrne, Larry Byrne, Daniel Byrne, Jon Paul Byrne, and Shannon Kelly Byrne.
Family and friends will gather on Monday, March 30, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Lauck & Veldhof Funeral Home, 1458 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis. The family will share their favorite memories at 2:00 p.m., with burial to follow at 3:30 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery, Indianapolis.
