Dwayne Robert (12/01/1940) VanMeter

Dwayne Robert VanMeter, 80, of Indianapolis, passed away on Friday, February 5, 2021 in Franciscan Health.  He was born on December 1, 1940 in Indianapolis to the late Stanley T. and Rissie R. (Decker) VanMeter.  Dwayne married the love of his life, Vicki J. (Ake) Van Meter, on June 30, 1961; she survives. 

Dwayne was a teacher and coach for 35 years; he taught, coached and was the Director of Intramural Sports for Perry Township for 29 of those years prior to retirement.  His love was coaching 8th grade football and wrestling.  Dwayne worked for Davidson Lumber after high school and, after becoming a teacher, he drove trucks for them during the summer.   He and his wife, Vicki, loved to camp and had visited all 50 states; his favorite campground was Fort Wilderness at Disney World.  Dwayne was a member of College Park Greenwood Church.

Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Vicki J. VanMeter; children, Christine McClellan, Julie (Phil) Glasser, Jeff (Alicia) VanMeter and Susan (Matt) Whitman; grandchildren, Sarah (Greg) Bodie, Kaylyn (Dominic) Beeson, Phillip (Victoria) Glasser, Hannah (Calvin) Johnson, Mary (Steven) Stunda, Samuel VanMeter, Emma VanMeter, Leah VanMeter, Eve VanMeter, Natalie Whitman and Nichole Whitman; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation from 4:00 - 6:30 pm followed by a Service at 7:00 pm Thursday, February 18, 2021 @ College Park Church Greenwood, 1222 Demaree Rd, Greenwood, IN 46143.  The service will be live streamed by the church at http://greenwood.yourchurch.com/live
