Elizabeth “Betty” Jane Spears, 69, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully in the early morning of Thursday, May 21, 2026. She was born on January 8, 1957, in Crawfordsville, Indiana, to the late Paul Walker and Pauline (Largent) Krise.
Betty worked for Calderon Brothers Coffee & Beverage Service as a cook and later for Aramark as a seamstress. She loved sewing, cooking, and playing games on Facebook. A lifelong animal lover, she always had a cat or dog by her side. Above all, Betty found her greatest joy in being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family was the heart of her life, and she cared for them with warmth, humor, and unwavering love.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Donald R. Spears; her son, Timothy E. (Shavon) Spears; her daughter, Cindy Short; her brother, Kevin Walker; her sister, Terri McElfresh; and many beloved grandchildren, including Tommy, Isaiah, Sophia, and Kielee. She was preceded in death by her son, Steve Leon Marshall, and her sister, Belinda Johnson.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, May 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services, 1458 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m., officiated by Pastor Danny Thomas.
