Ernest Breeding, age 83, Beech Grove IN
Ernest Breeding passed away in his sleep after his nightly conversation with his son on January 31, 2026. Ernest was born June 11, 1942 as the fourth child of Arvil and Ellen Breeding in Jackhorn, KY.
After graduating high school a semester early, Ernie joined the United States Army. Between basic training and assignment to a station in Germany, Ernie returned home briefly to marry his high school sweetheart, Barbara Jean Gibson on March 30, 1961. After his service to our country ended, Ernie was blessed to find a long-lasting career with the railroad, retiring in 2004.
During his life in Indiana, Ernie and Barbara raised two sons together. Ernie also served as a volunteer baseball coach and league president for Indiana Central Little League during the late 1970s. He was also a member of Peace Freewill Baptist Church where he and his family were baptized in 1979. Ernie enjoyed his family time, playing bingo with friends and was an avid fan of Kentucky men's basketball.
Ernie was preceded in death by his lovely wife of 55 years, Barbara; parents Arvil and Ellen; sister Patty; 3 brothers, Doug, Lloyd, and Johnny; and grandson Robert.
His surviving family will miss him dearly. Two sons, Randy(Beth) and Jeff(Shelly) both of Indianapolis. One granddaughter, Nici Hollis of Beech Grove. Three grandsons: Jason, Jacob, and Aaron all of the Indianapolis area. Ernie also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren and two sisters, Agnes Pontecarvo of Alexandria Virginia and Linda Brown of Greensburg Indiana.
Ernie requested in advance for a cremation with no services. There may be a small memorial or celebration of life in a few weeks. Feel free to contact Jeff or watch for a social media post regarding a possible service.
