Eugene Brent Klein
November 11, 1952 – January 11, 2026
Eugene “Brent” Brent Klein, 73, of Greenwood, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at home with his loving wife by his side. He was born on November 11, 1952, in Beech Grove to the late Eugene H. and Ora P. (Johnston) Klein.
Brent grew up in Beech Grove and on the east side of Indianapolis, graduating from Thomas Carr Howe High School with the class of 1971. A gifted chef with a warm, outgoing spirit, he built a long and memorable career in hospitality. Brent was especially proud of the many celebrities he served and met over the years, most notably during the month of May, when race season brought excitement, energy, and familiar faces to his kitchen.
His interests were as rich as his stories. Brent had a lifelong love of trains, inspired by his grandfather, who worked as a railroad engineer. He also had a natural talent for refinishing furniture, bringing new life to pieces with patience and craftsmanship. At home, he and his wife shared a deep affection for their beloved Scotties, who were always part of the family.
On February 3, 1983, Brent married the love of his life, Barbara J. (Kinney) Klein. Together they shared 43 years of marriage filled with devotion, laughter, and partnership. Known for his friendliness and easy rapport, Brent built lasting relationships with neighbors, coworkers, and anyone fortunate enough to cross his path.
Brent is survived by his wife, Barbara J. Klein; his daughter, Heather Marie VanCleave; and several grandchildren, all of whom will carry his memory forward with love.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 10 a.m. in the chapel at Calvary Cemetery. Burial will follow in Holy Cross/St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests Mass intentions for Brent.
Services and care were provided by Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services of Indianapolis.
