Francis "Buddy" Benefiel Obituary

Francis “Buddy” Bernard Benefiel

December 12, 1946 – September 1, 2025

Francis “Buddy” Bernard Benefiel, 78, passed away peacefully at home in Indianapolis on Monday, September 1, 2025. Born and raised in Indianapolis, Buddy was the beloved son of the late Francis H. and Helen Bernice (Osborne) Benefiel.

A proud graduate of Ben Davis High School, class of 1965, Buddy answered the call of duty and served honorably in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968 during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he married his lifelong love, Diane Sue (Kriech) Benefiel, on November 15, 1969. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised three children: Chrissy, Kandi, and Robert.

Buddy was a skilled plasterer and a proud member of the Plasterers Union 046 for 25 years. His craftsmanship helped shape many of Indianapolis’s iconic landmarks, including the State House, Murat Theatre, Hoosier Dome, and Circle Theatre. He was known not only for his work but for his infectious humor, love of storytelling, and mischievous pranks that brought laughter to all who knew him.

He found joy in fishing, woodworking, cheering on his favorite sports teams, and spending cherished time with his grandchildren and beloved dogs. His presence was a source of comfort, laughter, and love—and his absence will be deeply felt.

Buddy is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Diane S. Benefiel; children Chrissy (Donald) Kirts, Kandi Benefiel, and Robert Joseph Francis (Jennifer) Benefiel; grandchildren Cindi, A.J., Ashlee, Toby, Kayla, and Taeha; and great-grandchildren Annabelle, Devon, Brylan, Scarlet, Everly, Owen, Farrah, Kirkman, and Maxwell. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dennis Allen Benefiel.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Monday, September 8 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lauck & Veldhof Funeral Home. Prayers will be offered at 1 p.m., followed by a procession to Calvary Cemetery for full military honors and burial.
