Gary Allen Bates

Gary Allen Bates, 83, of Coatesville, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2021.  He was born on January 23, 1938 to the late Lewis Eugene and Juanita (Brown) Bates.  He married the love of his life, Alice Marie Beckett, on September 27, 1958.

Gary graduated from Emmerich Manual High School, class of 1956 and then attended Business College.  He retired from Citizens Gas after 38 years of employment.  Gary was a member of the IBEW Local Union 481 and coached Little League in Speedway for many years.  He enjoyed woodworking, stained glass and boating. 

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Alice Bates; children, Jeffrey (Cathy) Bates, Stephen (Lauralee) Bates, Angela (Jim) Callan and A.J. (Irvin) Bates; siblings, Carol Johnson, Peggy Patton, Doug (Terri) Gerdt and Cindy (Gene) Sprowl; sister-in-law, Ruth Bates; brother-in-law, Jack Beckett; special cousin, Sabra Duerstock; grandchildren, Rachel Bates, Lindsey (Shawn) Haggerty, Cameron (Brooke) Callan, Corinne Callan, Abigail Bates, Grace Dziennik, Anthony Bates and Zach Dziennik; great-grandchildren, Ellie, Owen, Olieva and Aletta.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Bates and Juanita (Carl) Gerdt; and brother, Dennis Bates. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 10 at 11 a.m. in Holy Name Catholic Church with one hour of visitation prior starting at 10 a.m.
