Gary Lee Conner
March 30, 1939 – August 16, 2022
Gary Conner, 83, passed away in the presence of family by his hospital bedside on August 16, 2022, in Indianapolis. His battle with cancer came on suddenly and swiftly toward the last year of his life.
Survivors include: his wife, June Conner; daughter, Joanne Conner and (Rommel Toledo); daughter, Laurie Conner and (Scott Geyer); and grandsons, Alex and Liam. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Gale Conner and Glen Conner.
Gary grew up in Alexandria, Virginia. He excelled in mathematics in high school and joined the military reserves soon after he graduated. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Central Missouri University, with minors in physics and chemistry.
After graduating college, he worked for the US Government as a Network Engineer at the Pentagon for 33 years. He was a survivor of the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon and retired a year later. However, retirement did not stop him from working. He continued in IT at The World Bank while pursuing his passion for the health and wellness field, earning his certifications as a yoga instructor and personal fitness trainer. Over time, he had also learned that self-hypnosis and focused meditation helped him to overcome obstacles in his life, especially in times of extreme stress. He decided to help others using these same methods. He became a Naturopathic Doctor and practiced using hypnotherapy, guided meditation, and other natural remedies to help others with physical and emotional pain. Gary also worked as an in-home CNA for many years, providing care to the elderly and terminally ill. During his last years, he continued to pursue ways to help people through various jobs. It was truly his passion in life to help others.
Gary was an avid reader, tennis player, and environmentalist. He planted and tended fruit trees throughout his life, and also planted two trees to commemorate the births of his daughters. Spontaneity, humor, an excitement for life, curiosity about the unknown, and frequently telling family he loved them are just a few of the heartfelt characteristics for which he will be remembered and loved.
