Gregory Charles Dant

Gregory Charles Dant, Sr., 63, of Indianapolis, passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2023. He was born on June 18, 1959, in Beech Grove, to the late Joseph Tilford and Kathleen Perley (Schoettle) Dant. Greg married the love of his life, Elizabeth “Liz” Marie (Dodson) Dant, on April 21, 1989, at St. Jude Catholic Church.

Greg was a graduate of Roncalli High School, class of 1977, and went on to attend IUPUI. He retired as the general manager of Dant Insurance, where he worked with his siblings, Chris and Kathy, and cousins, Fred and Jeff Schoettle. Greg served on the City Council for the City of Southport for eight years and was the family archivist. Of all Greg’s accomplishments, raising four successful children with his wife, Liz, was at the top of his list; Greg and Liz gave them a good Catholic education and sent them to college. He could not have been prouder.

Survivors include his loving wife of 34 years, Liz Dant; children, Joseph Nicholas (Sarah) Dant, IV, Gregory Charles (Chloe) Dant, Jr., Evan Christopher (Halle Bova) Dant and Mary Irene (Austin) Palmieri; siblings, Rev. J. Nicholas Dant, III, Kathleen M. Henderson, Gerard P. (Colleen) Dant, Gerald B. (Tracy) Dant, Elizabeth M. (Robert) Derwin, Timothy M. (Karole) Dant, George B. Dant and Harold F. (Michelle) Dant; grandchildren, Liam, Charlotte, Rowan and Ezekiel (Zeke).

Greg was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Frederick A. Dant, Thomas J. Dant, Mary Melinda Dant and Christopher D. Dant. 

Family and friends will gather on Thursday, May 11, 2023, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services, 1458 S. Meridian St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 12 at 11 a.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church, 5353 McFarland Rd., with additional visitation at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass. Inurnment will follow in Concordia Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions have been suggested to the Sisters of Providence of Saint-Mary-of-the-Woods and Sisters of St. Benedict of Our Lady of Grace Monastery. Envelopes will be provided by the funeral home.
