James Gearries Obituary

James Gilbert Gearries, 91, of Beech Grove, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. He was born on April 30, 1934, in North Vernon, Indiana, to the late Roy and Ann (Amstutz) Gearries.

Jim graduated from Washington High School in 1952 and went on to retire from RCA after an extraordinary 51½ years of service, where he maintained record presses. He began working at RCA at just 19 years old and was honored with the Sagamore of the Wabash in recognition of his dedication and contributions. Jim met the love of his life, Janice E. (Foddrill) Gearries, and the two were married on June 12, 1976.

A gifted vocalist, Jim sang with the RCA Choir, the Thompson Road Baptist Church Choir, and often as a soloist. He enjoyed golf and was known for his skill and craftsmanship, building decks, sheds, and many other projects with his own hands.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Janice Gearries; sons, Kevin Mahoney, and Matthew Gearries; daughters, Kelly Burns, Royann Hammes; brother, Jeff Gearries; sister, Joyce Cathy Kirkman; and many grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, James Gearries II; and his daughter, Charlene Settecasi.

He will be laid to rest at Concordia Cemetery on Monday, February 9, at 1 p.m., with a simple graveside service in accordance with his wishes. Chaplain Bill Marshall will be officiating.
