James Lawrence Hafner, 77, of Indianapolis, passed away on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 three days after his beloved wife Pamela. He was born on June 9, 1944 in St. Paul, Minnesota to the late Lawrence and Marjorie (Gunderson) Hafner. The family moved to Indianapolis before he started grade school at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. James and Pamela Ann Hiatt were married on May 9, 1964 in St. Philip Neri Catholic Church; she preceded him in death.
James was a graduate of Cathedral High School, class of 1962 and was a salesman for Central Rubber and Supply, then for Vonnegut Industrial Products and finally Kennametal prior to retirement. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, where he attended grade school, and later St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and a volunteer for over 20 years for the St. Vincent de Paul Society where he made home deliveries and worked at the food bank.
Survivors include his children, Joseph Lawrence (Daniel Paradis) Hafner, Maria Christine (Brad) Montgomery and Tanya Jean (Steve) Rowland; grandchildren, Amanda (David) Glidewell, Katie (Mark) Creviston, Emily (Kevin) Reece and Erin (Wyatt) Stevens; and great-grandchildren, Abigail, Julia, Lydia, Oaklynn, Oliver and Asher. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Colleen Margaret Hafner; and brother, Gary Hafner.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 8, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. in SS. Francis & Clare, 5901 Olive Branch Road, Greenwood, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. Inurnment: Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Indianapolis.
Memorial contributions have been suggested to the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Envelopes will be provided by the funeral home.
