James “Jimmy” Morris Underhill
July 29, 1959 – November 30, 2025
James “Jimmy” Morris Underhill, 66, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 30, 2025, after a brief illness. Born July 29, 1959, in Indianapolis to the late James Albert and Alice (Collins) Underhill, Jimmy lived a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion to his family.
On December 31, 1982, Jimmy married the love of his life, Connie Faye (Scruggs) Underhill. They chose New Year’s Eve so no one would ever ask them to babysit on their anniversary—or so they thought. Together they built a home overflowing with joy, resilience, and the kind of love that inspires everyone around them.
Jimmy worked for Stokely VanCamp, proudly sharing that he was responsible for making Gatorade. Well-liked and respected, he was never shy about teaching others how to do things the “right way”—also known as his way. A talented cook and avid fisherman, Jimmy’s greatest passion was his family. He adored his 22 grandchildren, and had a natural gift with children, always ready to soothe a crying baby and make them feel safe.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 42 years, Connie Underhill; children Chad Hendricks, Newell (Stephanie) Boyce, Carl LaFollette, James (Jamie) Underhill, and Kimberly (Chris) Spears; siblings Edward Underhill, Dawn Underhill, and Rudy (Tom) Underhill; grandchildren Connor, Jaylen, Cameron, Lacie, Ashley, Kyndal, Josh, Christian, Kimberly, Ethan, Tyler, Kenzie, Parker, Gabe, Hailie, Harlie, DeNaysia, Jordan, Ayden, Khloe, Stephanee, Andyi, and Carter; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Heather Underhill; and siblings Jeff Underhill, Tina Underhill, and Debbie.
Family and friends will gather on Sunday, December 7, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Lauck & Veldhof Funeral Home, 1458 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis. A service celebrating his life will be held on Monday, December 8, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Donald “D.J.” Scribner officiating. Burial will follow in Concordia Cemetery.
