Janet Louise McClain, 77, of Indianapolis, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, December 22, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on September 27, 1947, in Beech Grove, to the late Elmer Frederick and Alberta Rose (Kriech) Heinzelman. She married the love of her life, Herbert Allen McClain, on July 9, 2021, on the beaches of Panama City, Florida, surrounded by their families.
Janet grew up attending Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, class of 1965. She was a devoted and award-winning Avon Lady for over 40 years who enjoyed bringing out beauty in others. She retired from Barnes & Thornburg, LLP, as a receptionist and was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church. Janet looked forward to the annual “Pink Out” at Triton Central every year as she was a 28-year breast cancer survivor.
Janet was a loving and supportive mother, always making sacrifices, so that she could do more for her children. Her grandchildren were the center of her world, and she did everything she could to make all their events. Her husband, Herb, described Janet as the most wonderful, dedicated, loving, caring and honest woman he has ever met. Janet enjoyed flower gardening, landscaping, being outside, the beach (putting her feet in the sand) and cruising. She and Herb were looking forward to their upcoming cruise this coming February.
Survivors include her husband, Herb McClain; children, Jeff (Shelly) Harris, Jennifer (Chris) Pearson and Sandy (Mick) Bird; siblings, Jim (Debbie) Heinzelman, Bob Heinzelman, Dave (Karen) Heinzelman, Rose Mather, Rita (Mike) Fenton, Mary (Jack) Pardue, and John (Angie) Heinzelman; sister-in-law, Pat Heinzelman; grandchildren, Lilly, Landen, Taylor, Christian, Gabe, Cody and Jamie; and puppy, Sassy Rose.
