Jay C. Wampler, 82, of Indianapolis, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2024. He was born on April 7, 1942, in Indianapolis, to the late Miller and Alice (Danforth) Wampler. He married the love of his life, Loretta (Center) Wampler, on April 18, 1972; she preceded him in death.
Jay graduated from Martinsville High School on May 26, 1960, and was in the Indiana Army National Guard for over twenty years, retiring at the rank of Master Sergeant. He loved to play golf and was a talented artist who loved to paint. Jay will be remembered most as a loving father and grandfather who always put his family first.
Survivors include his children, David J. (Renee) Wampler, Terry M. (Ronda Hyde) Wampler, Gregory K. (Crystal) Wampler and Melissa S. (George) Gates; siblings, Judy Constantino, Sue Neely (Mark), Joann (Mike) Knight, Frances (Bill) Lucas and Micky (Loretta) Wampler; 18 grandchildren. 30 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Loretta Wampler; siblings, Geraldine “Jerry” Skaggs and Nick Tevault; grandsons, Gregory K. Wampler II and David J. Wampler II.
Family and friends will gather on Thursday, June 13, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services, 1458 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis. A service celebrating his life will begin at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Kevin Danforth officiating. Burial will follow services in Round Hill Cemetery.
