Jeffery Stephen Vessely, 69, who came into the world through Anoka, MN and spent his formidable years in North Judson, IN, went home to be with the Lord on February 1st, 2016. Jeff, having grown up playing and loving sports, ultimately graduated from the Normal College (School of Physical Education) and went on to teach for over 36 years in the IUPUI School of Physical Education and Tourism Management. While at IUPUI, Jeff held numerous roles including the Director of Intramural and Recreational Sports and the Dean of Students. Additionally, Jeff was the Executive Secretary for Phi Epsilon Kappa Fraternity for 30 years, and an active member of the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association - NIRSA (held position of President) and Indiana Association of Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
Jeff was known for his story telling and humor, and loved engaging with people. Jeff was a valuable asset to the recreational sports and University communities, and is beloved by his former students.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Margaret, and daughter Tracey. Jeff is survived by his wife Susan, children Leslie Krefta (Mark), Sara, and Thomas (Tasha), and siblings Jane Peterson (Allen), Colleen Kaczvinsky (Joe), Juleen White (Dan), and Patrick as well as 8 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 5 from 12-8 p.m. in Lauck and Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services, 1458 South Meridian Street, Indianapolis, IN 46225. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Saturday, February 6 at 11 a.m. with prayers being said at the funeral home prior to mass at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the IUPUI School of Physical Education, Jeff and Susan Vessely Scholarship.
