John Dominic Battiato, 95, of Indianapolis, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2025. He was born December 23, 1929, in Freemont, Nebraska, to the late John and Frances (Minardi) Battiato.
John served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and retired from the Indianapolis Fire Department in 1989 after 29 years of service.
John was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles and Russell Battiato; sister, Mary Fucinaro; grandsons, Adam Sparenblek, Christopher Schnepf; and great-grandson, Caden Bauerle.
Survivors include his brother, Reverand Ronald Battiato; his nine children, Mary Jo (Carl) Schnepf, Dominic (Cynthia) Battiato, Marguerite (Thomas) Blackburn, Diana (Daniel) Wininger, Tina Thompson, John (Robin) Battiato, Anthony (Lisa) Battiato, Joseph (Linda) Battiato and Stephen (Lisa) Battiato; bonus son, Thomas (Velvet) McKinney; 30 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will gather on Saturday, March 8 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services, 1458 S. Meridian St. A memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions have been suggested to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rebuild My Church Fund.
