John Thomas Ries

John T. Ries, 77, of Indianapolis, passed away on August 19, 2021.  He was born on May 26, 1944 to John F. and Mary H. Ries (Sullivan).

He graduated from Sacred Heart High School and retired from Phoenix Fabricators and Erectors. He enjoyed being outdoors including camping and fishing with his family. One of his passions was Indy Car Racing, having attended over 40 Indianapolis 500 races. He also loved following several sports teams including IU Basketball, Notre Dame Football, the Pacers, the Colts and his beloved Chicago Bears. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, having served on the parish council and took communion to the sick for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Sallie Ann Lydick, and his brothers, Joe, David and Kevin Ries. He is survived by his children, Theresa Davis (Kevin), Andrew and David Ries, his grandchildren, Victoria, Emily and Kyle Ries, his sisters, Rosie Young (Phil) and Barbara Stumpf (Bill). 

Family and friends will gather on Sunday, August 22, 2021 from 2 to 4 p.m. in Lauck & Veldhof Funeral Home.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 23 at 11 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church with prayers being said prior to Mass at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Entombment:  Calvary Cemetery.
