Joseph Michael Peoni, 85, of Bradenton, Florida and Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2026, in his daughter's home in Indianapolis. Born on August 5, 1940, in Indianapolis to the late Joseph M. and Catherine Mary (Ciresi) Peoni Sr., Joseph lived a life filled with love, dedication, and generosity.
A proud graduate of Emmerich Manual High School in the Class of 1958, Joseph went on to build a successful career at Western Electric, where he worked for over 37 years before retiring. His strong work ethic and commitment to excellence were hallmarks of his professional life.
Joseph was a devoted family man who cherished his loved ones deeply. He is survived by his daughters Angela (Craig) Butcher and Kimberly Rider (Peoni); his brother Anthony J. Peoni; and his grandchildren Craig Jr., Ashley, and Chad Butcher, as well as Jacob, Randi, and J.T. Rider. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly. Joseph was preceded in death by his beloved wife Carol (Miller) Peoni; his parents; his brother John and sister-in-law Barbara Peoni; his sister Frances and brother-in-law Robert Fox; and his grandson Jarred Butcher.
Faith played an important role in Joseph’s life as a devout Catholic. His generosity and willingness to help others were reflections of this faith. He was known for his kind heart and unwavering support for those around him.
Joseph had a passion for sports that brought him great joy throughout his life. He was an enthusiastic fan of the Indianapolis Colts and Notre Dame athletics. In recent years, he developed a deep appreciation for women’s college and professional basketball. Beyond sports, Joseph enjoyed bowling—a pastime he pursued with enthusiasm—and took pride in working in his yard and landscaping. He found peace in creating beautiful outdoor spaces.
Traveling with his wife Carol was one of Joseph’s greatest joys. Together they explored new places and created countless cherished memories during their adventures. Their bond was one of deep love and mutual respect, testament to the strength of their relationship.
Joseph’s legacy is one of love, kindness, and devotion to family. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
May he rest in eternal peace alongside those he loved so dearly.
