Obituary

Joshua David Gillum, 29, passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2023.  He was born along with his twin sister, Jessica, on May 10, 1994, in Indianapolis.

Josh attended St. Matthew Catholic School and Cathedral High School, Lawrence Central and graduated from Hoosier Youth Challenge Academy.  He excelled at football and wrestling, both alongside his favorite teammate, Gino his brother with whom he won multiple city championships.  His kind heartedness was exemplified during several mission trips while at St. Matthew and after.

His family was the center of his world, a family that was blessed with his arrival and who appreciated his presence and love.  He was valued and treasured working side-by-side with his mother and father at the City Market among other locations.  Josh had a great sense of humor which left everyone with a laugh and a smile.  He was especially good with his nephews and nieces as he adored them all.  He will truly be missed, but solace can be found that he is now with his twin sister, Jessica Gillum, and father, Joseph Gillum.

Survivors include his mother, Emily (Devon) Russell; siblings, Joey (Brenda) Gillum, Lucia Gillum, Jackie (Matt) Anderson, Gino Gillum, Michael Gillum, and Mia Maria Gillum as well as Na’Keisha Carter, Rachel Howard, and William Gillum.  He is also survived by maternal grandparents, Gary Hofmeister and Giannina (Jim) Hofmeister-Connelly; paternal grandmother, Josephine Bova; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.  Josh was preceded in death by his brothers, Tory and Charles Carter; his father, Joseph Gillum; his sister, Jessica Gillum; and grandfather, Kenneth Gillum.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at 12 noon in St. Matthew Catholic Church, 4100 E. 56th St., Indianapolis, with calling in the church from 11 a.m. until the time of Mass.  Inurnment will take place on a later date in Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions have been suggested to the Schizophrenia & Psychosis Action Alliance.  Envelopes will be provided at the church.
