Juanita R. (Payton) Schmidt

Juanita R. Schmidt, 85, of Indianapolis, passed away on Monday, June 26, 2023, in Franciscan Health Hospital of Mooresville.  She was born on October 20, 1937, in Liberty, Kentucky to the late Dave and Allie (Shoopman) Payton.  Juanita married the love of her life, Fred E. Schmidt, on May 3, 1993; he survives.

Juanita was a member of the Gospel of Deliverance Church and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  She was known for her immaculately clean home, green beans, cornbread and a fried chicken leg (almost daily).  Juanita had a sweet disposition and will be truly missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include, her loving husband, Fred E. Schmidt, Sr.; children, Barbara Miller (Randy), Peggy Morrison (Franky), Carol Miller (Donnie) and Lisa Orbaugh (Jeff); sisters, Jean Reckley and Virginia Corso; grandchildren, Shane Graham, Mark Smith, Matthew Smith (Destinee), Chris Propes (Sarah), Jonathan Propes, Joshua Propes (Nikki), Mikey Burdine (Melissa), Chasity Davis (Derek), Jorden Miller, Brandon Lynn (Grady) and Skylar Lynn (Alacyn); eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.  She was preceded in death by sons, Michael Naylor and David Lynn; stepson, Fred Schmidt, Jr.; and grandson, Chad Nichols. 

Family and friends will gather on Wednesday, June 28 from 4 to 7 p.m. in Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services, 1458 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis.  A service celebrating her life will follow at 7 p.m. with Pastor David Gibson officiating.  Inurnment will take place on a later date, and she will be inurned with her son, Michael Naylor, in Kentucky.
