Juanita Lee (Strait) Schmidt

Juanita “Sis” Lee (Strait) Schmidt, 49, of Indianapolis, passed away on Thursday, November 4, 2021 in Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital. She was born on March 18, 1972 in Sullivan, Indiana, to Ermel Lee and Arvetta Jane (Welsh) Strait.

Juanita or “Kiddo as she was known to her grandkids, was a loving and devoted wife, mother and mamaw. She always put her family first and loved to sing You are My Sunshine to her husband after he would sing it to her during their 21 years together. She and her family enjoyed going to Brown County State Park, the cookouts and bonfires, tanning, collecting Coca-Cola® memorabilia and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her children, Tommy (Jennifer) Love, Arvetta Dillard and Amber (Gary) Clark; father and stepmother, Ermel and Theresa Strait; brothers, Jasper (Robin) Strait, Jerry Strait and Joshua Strait; and grandchildren, Joseph, Kayden, Jaxon, Aubree “MeMe,” Kayla, Bella, Noah, Elliott, Chandler and Kennedy. In addition to her mother, Arvetta, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick E. Schmidt, Jr. and a baby sister, Nancy Irene Strait.

Family and friends will gather on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services, 1458 South Meridian Street, with a service celebrating her life at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood.
