Judy Ann (Schooley) Sitzman

Judy Ann Sitzman, 81, of Greenwood passed away June 5, 2024 at her home.

Judy was born March 19, 1943 in Indianapolis to the late Charles and Leona (Turk) Schooley. She proudly grew up in Haughville amid the shadows of her beloved Holy Trinity Slovenian Roman Catholic Church and the Slovenian National Home. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1961 and St. Vincent’s Nursing School in 1964. Judy married Richard James Sitzman on May 13, 1967 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church.

She had been employed as an RN at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis Industrial Clinic, St. Francis Hospital, and Southside Healthcare. Judy was a member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church since 1967. She was active in the Women’s Club and Funeral Meal Preparation. She also served as a Lector, Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, Extraordinary Minister to the Sick and Homebound, CCD teacher, and CYO volleyball coach. “Juju” affectionately and passionately baked potica every Christmas and Easter. Fortunately, she passed down this Slovenian tradition to her daughter, Kate. She loved swimming at the YMCA, and later in the family’s pool. Judy also enjoyed camping, dominating word puzzles, and supporting her children’s and grandchildren’s athletic teams.

Judy is survived by her loving husband, Dick; children, Ken Sitzman and wife Jill, Kevin Sitzman, Keith Sitzman and wife Angela (San Antonio, TX), and Kate Sitzman; grandchildren, Abigail, Alexandra, Carter, Colin (Indy) and Genevieve, Jackson, Dylan (San Antonio, TX); brothers Charles Schooley (Clayton), Jerry Schooley (Seelyville), and Richard Schooley (Tipton). She was preceded in death by infant Brett Sitzman (Indy) and her dear sister, Mary Lou Peden (Martinsville).

Visitation will be held in the Narthex at St. Barnabas Catholic Church (8300 Rahke Rd. Indianapolis 46217) from 9:30 am to 11:30 am, followed by the Funeral Mass, and burial at Mount Pleasant Cemetery (734 N, Morgantown Rd. Greenwood 46142).
