Karen Anne Swickheimer, 76, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025. She was born on June 8, 1948, in Indianapolis, to the late Francis and Lucille (Rourke) O’Brien.
Karen was part of the second graduating class of Bishop Chatard High School, class of 1966, and went on to get her degree in nursing. She practiced as an R.N., specializing in OB-GYN care at Eskenazi Hospital, retiring after 25 years of service. Karen was a devoted member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, Our Lady of Knock Division #1 and Christ the King Catholic Church.
Karen’s greatest love was cooking and entertaining family and friends; she was an amazing hostess. Football was a favorite event and she loved supporting her grandkids in whatever sports they did. She loved decorating for the holidays, playing golf, Euchre and traveling with family and friends. Karen collected cookbooks, was an avid reader and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. She will be truly missed by her loving family and friends.
Survivors include her children, Patrick, Andrew (Chrissy), Matthew and Anne Marie Swickheimer; grandchildren, Emma and Drew Swickheimer, Brian (Brianna) Rainheimer, and Brennan Wooten; great-grandchildren, Saint Michael and Soul Joseph Wooten. She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Barry O’Brien and Mary Ellen O’Brien Williams.
Family and friends will gather on Wednesday, January 29 from 4 to 8 p.m. in Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services, 1458 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 30 at 10:30 a.m. in Christ the King Catholic Church, 5884 Crittenden Ave., Indianapolis, with additional visitation at the church prior to Mass starting at 9:30 a.m. Inurnment will take place on a later date in Calvary Cemetery.
