Katelynn Destiny Patterson-VanArsdale
April 11, 1997 – October 10, 2025
Katelynn Destiny Patterson-VanArsdale was beamed up and reunited with her creator on October 10, 2025, after courageously battling cancer. She was 28 years old. Born on April 11, 1997, in Indianapolis, Katelynn was the beloved daughter of Jennifer VanArsdale.
A proud graduate of Southport High School, Katelynn had a deep passion for serving others. Her love for people and her generous spirit were evident from a young age. As a member of the youth group at Saint Luke’s Methodist Church, she traveled on mission trips to Peru, Haiti, Tennessee and right here in Indiana. After graduation, she continued her service by mentoring younger youth on retreats and missions, and by volunteering her time at the Julian Center, Methodist Hospital, and Gleaners Food Bank. Katelynn was a long-term member of Life Journey Church since 2011.
Katelynn’s compassion and life experiences led her to pursue a degree in Psychology. She was a dedicated student at Ivy Tech, maintaining an impressive 3.9 GPA, and she was immensely proud to be a recipient of the Nina Mason Pulliam Legacy Scholars award.
To say she loved P!nk is an understatement—she attended multiple concerts with Ami and found joy and empowerment in the music. She was an avid traveler, especially drawn to aquariums. While she loved all marine life, she fell in love with sea turtles on her dream trip to Hawaii in 2025. She was a devoted fan of Stitch, with a wardrobe to match.
More than anything, Katelynn cherished her family and the village that surrounded her with love. She was a proud aunt to four nieces and nephews and was overjoyed to become a godmother in 2024. She held dear the special friendships she had with Machelle, Nakeyah, Lisa, and Lydia, whose love and support meant the world to her.
Katelynn is survived by her loving parents, Jen (Doody) VanArsdale and Mark Patterson; her siblings, Nancy, Amelia, and Victoria Patterson, and nephew Huxley; her brother Dannye (Taylor) VanArsdale and niece Ella; her cherished Grammie Marylyn Belden; her GodPapa Laura Poe; and her beloved Godson, Robin Riley.
She was welcomed into eternity by her grandparents Judi Sparks, Danny Sparks, and Granny Gog, who preceded her in death.
Katelynn’s light will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her courage, compassion, and joy will never be forgotten.
Until we meet again, may you run freely through heaven’s fields of sunflowers.
Family and friends will gather on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 12 noon to 2 p.m. in LifeJourney Church, 2950 E. 55th Place, Indianapolis, IN 46220. A service celebrating her life will follow at 2 p.m. in the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that if you feel called to help with final expenses of the home going celebration or make a donation to protect sea turtles in their habitats: greatergood.org.
