Kathryn Ann Massing, 104, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. She was born on November 11, 1921, in Jefferson County, Indiana, to the late Howard and Eleanor (Hill) Bumen.
Kathryn and her sister, Rosemary, were awarded scholarships to attend St. Joseph Academy in Tipton, Indiana, where Kathryn graduated in 1940. She later married Leo A. Massing, also of Jefferson County, and together they shared 58 years of marriage. Their union was blessed with seven children, one of whom preceded her in death. Kathryn was especially proud of her service with the St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary, where she volunteered more than 47,000 hours.
She is survived by her children: Mary (Roy Gabriel) Sturm, Joseph Massing, John (Grace) Massing, Leo A. (Anne) Massing, Jr., Sarah Himes, and Anna (Gene) LaBaw; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Massing, Sr.; her sister, Rosemary Lohrman; her daughter, Paula (James) Curseaden, and her son-in-law Rick Himes.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, February 3, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services, 1458 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 4, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1530 Union St., with prayers at the funeral home beginning at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Building Fund or the Congregation of St. Joseph. Envelopes will be available at all services.
