Kathryn “Kathy” Nell Schallert, 69, of Greenwood, Indiana passed away peacefully on Monday, October 25, 2021 in Franciscan Health Hospital, Indianapolis, Indiana. She was born on November 18, 1951 in Faribault, Minnesota to the late John Sydney and Harriet Jane (Short) Backman. She graduated in 1970 from Waterville H.S. and Mankato State College with honors (March) 1974. Kathy married the love of her life, DCN. Nathan “Nate” C. Schallert, on April 20, 1974 in Montgomery, Minnesota.
She enjoyed reading, quilting, scrapbooking, spending quality time with all her prayer warriors of the numerous prayer groups to which she belonged, volunteering at the Indiana House Rabbit Society in Indianapolis and she loved traveling, especially to the beaches of Hawaii.
Survivors include her loving husband of 47 years, DCN. Nate Schallert; son, Michael Gregory Schallert of Indianapolis; sister Sally (Steve) Olson of Le Sueur Minnesota; her nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, co-workers, neighbors, prayer warriors at the OLG Perpetual Adoration Chapel, CHRP, Cursillo, deacon formation class, parishioners at Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral, her quilting partners and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Kellie Marie Schallert (July 2021); and her sister, Elizabeth “Liz” Jane Labs (Liz).
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 7, 2021 from 2 to 6 p.m. in Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services, 1458 S. Meridian St., where the rosary will be said at 5:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 8 at 10 a.m. in SS. Peter & Paul Cathedral, 1347 N. Meridian St., with additional visitation prior to Mass starting at 9 a.m. The Rev. Patrick Beidelman will be the presider. Inurnment will follow Mass in Calvary Cemetery.
