Kayley Jean Layman, 34, passed away at her home in Indianapolis on May 6, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on November 17, 1990, in South Bend, Indiana, to her parents Colin Layman and Laura Skornog.
Kayley was independent and fearless throughout her life. Gowing up in New Carlisle she was a fierce competitor on the softball field but especially exceled at volleyball. She carried that competitive spirit to all aspects of her life. The complexities of math and science came easy to Kayley as she graduated from New Prairie High School and attended Purdue University. After her time at Purdue, she journeyed out west to Fort Collins, Colorado where she exercised her wit and charm as a bartender. In 2014, she moved back to Indiana and made a new home for herself in Indianapolis. She was adored and respected by her associates and counterparts as a retail manager at Marshalls. She shined there and quickly became one of the district’s youngest and most successful Store Managers.
In June of 2018 she met Nick Riedle on a blind date and showed him no mercy beating him in darts, Golden Tee and stealing his heart. For the next 7 years their love grew stronger and endured the battle with melanoma that began in 2020. They made Fall Creek neighborhood their home where they cherished hosting family, friends and their beloved dogs; Harper, Charli, Mooch and Malice. Kayley loved spending time with family and friends, pop-culture, competition, traveling, her sports teams but most of all her niece Penny Layman and nephew Presley Layman.
Kayley was confident, loving and magnetic. She effortlessly stole the room with her special mix of beauty, sense of humor and a dose of sass. Her expansive group of loving, dedicated friends never stopped growing because she was a force and truly undeniable.
She is survived by her wonderful parents; loving step-father, Rob Skornog; devoted partner, Nick Riedle; her brothers Evan Layman (Mollyann), Ian Skornog, and Cade Skornog and many others in her large, loving family and group of friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents William and Gloria Layman and Lonnie and Gail Burnett.
