Lawrence Mitchell Swickheimer, 76, of Indianapolis, passed away on Friday, December 30, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born on December 5, 1946, in Columbus, Ohio to the late Paul Kenneth and Ruby (Horn) Swickheimer.
Lawrence served in the United States Coast Guard, spending two years in Italy and later served on The Bramble, patrolling Lake Erie. He was always the fun parent, taking the kids on many adventures including Kings Island most summers. Lawrence was a good storyteller and loved to share his experiences in the Coast Guard and of his past. He moved back to Indianapolis from Columbus, Ohio eight years ago to be closer to his family and enjoyed watching his grandkids sporting activities, especially football.
Survivors include his children, Patrick, Andrew (wife, Chrissy), Matthew and Anne Marie Swickheimer; siblings, Howard, Richard and Martha Swickheimer; grandchildren, Emma and Drew Swickheimer (Andrew’s children) and Brian Rainheimer (wife, Brianna) and Brennan Wooten (Anne Marie’s children).
Family and friends will gather on Saturday, January 14, 2023, from 1 to 4 p.m. in Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services, 1458 S. Meridian St. Inurnment will happen on a later date with full military honors in Crown Hill National Cemetery.
