Leonard Walter Matney, 72, of Indianapolis, passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2024. He was born on June 16, 1951, in Matewan, West Virginia, to the late Robert Matney and Minerva (Mullins) Matney. He married the love of his life, Soanya Lynn (Bryan) Matney, on July 11, 1994.
Leonard retired from the City of Indianapolis, after 42 years of employment. He loved his grandkids and kids in general. He was a deacon in his church and had a deep and abiding faith in his savior Jesus Christ. Leonard was a loving and devoted husband and will be deeply missed by his wife, Soanya.
Survivors include his wife, Soanya L. Matney; step-children, Amber (Jeff Jennings) Bryan, Anthony (Christina) Bryan and Chara Grimes; sisters, Brenda Hill, Lisa (Tracey) Blackwell and Tina Phillips; grandchildren, Kristina (Sergio) Herrera, Amber Cheyanne Grimes and Lenard Cory Grimes; great-grandchildren, Sergio Herrera, Teddy Herrera and Angel Cruz. He was preceded in death by his parents and all five of his brothers.
Family and friends will gather on Sunday, April 28 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon in the Power of Prayer Community Church, 225 S. Parker Ave., Indianapolis. A service will follow at 12 noon with Pastor Davy Keen presiding. His wishes were to be cremated after services.
Memorial contributions have been suggested in Leonard’s memory to his church, Power of Prayer Community Church, 225 S. Parker Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46201. Envelopes will be provided at the church.
